Integrated MSI and OMICS workflow scheme. The parafilm covering of the glass slide serves as a support that allows the dissection of entire sections or ROIs after MALDI MS image acquisition. The sections can then be subjected to downstream metabolite and protein identification by LC MS, and the data generated by both methods are used for integrated analyses. Lipid/metabolite identifications can also be correlated back to the imaging dataset to provide peak assignments.205
