Abstract
⺠We sketch a theoretical framework for presence experiences in media environments. ⺠Central to our framework is the notion of embodiment and the incorporation of tools. ⺠Three levels of embodiment are distinguished: morphology, body schema, body image. ⺠Components of immersive media technology may be incorporated in one or more levels. ⺠Presence occurs when tools become functional or phenomenological body extensions.
