Abstract
Recurrent pain episodes often limit sportsmen in regular participation or even cease their athletic careers altogether. Despite the frequency of Anterior Knee Pain (AKP) there is a commonly accepted definition lacking. The etiology is multifactorial in nature and there is no broad agreement about a diagnostical and therapeutical pathway prior to individualized treatment. It seems reasonable to differentiate functional and structural causes of the disease early. Thereby the progression of clinical symptoms might be prevented. The purpose of this article is to present a thorough clinical examination before planning an individualized treatment. A non-invasive therapy regimen, which has been proven in clinical practice, is enclosed.
