Abstract
The problem of shoulder instability in sports is well known, especially in overhead and high-kinetic energy sports. The highest incidence is in 95% the anterior-inferior shoulder dislocation. In addition to the direction of dislocation, mechanism and frequency of events are important for classification. The major accompanied injuries are not only capsule/labrum cartilage and osseous lesions but also nerve and vascular injuries. For the reposition of the shoulder, gentle maneuvers increasingly establish. Standard in the primary imaging is are conventional X-rays. A cross-sectional imaging of the joint should be performed. According to imaging and injury patterns, the therapy can be done conservatively or surgically. The need for the surgical treatment depends on the risk of redislocation. An individually tailored rehabilitation program allows an early resumption of athletic activity.
