Abstract
Prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE) is one the most severe forms of infective endocarditis, with the highest risk of death and need for surgery. Patients with PVE should be evaluated and managed in reference centres, with immediate surgical facilities and the presence of a multidisciplinary endocarditis team, including a cardiologist, imaging specialists, a cardiac surgeon, a microbiologist, and a specialist in infectious diseases. A review is presented of the diagnostic, therapeutic and prognostic aspects of this entity.
