Abstract
Exacerbations of COPD are associated with accelerated loss of lung function, declining health status, and increased mortality, and the key objective in the management of COPD is preventing exacerbations or at least reducing their number and severity. New interventions should be examined in reference to the minimal clinically important difference (MCID), a theoretical numerical value which reflects felt by patients and perceived by physician as a meaningful change in measures describing patient's health status. The MCID for COPD exacerbations had been established and set on the level of 20% reduction in exacerbation frequency.
