Abstract

A novel bootstrap equalizer is proposed for the suppression of co-channel interference (CCI) in a time-varying multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel. We first developed a decorrelating equalization algorithm for MIMO communication system, in which the received signals are decorrelated based on the statistical properties of the MIMO source signals and therefore the CCIs are suppressed in a blind fashion. The method is then introduced into the time-varying MIMO system, and the decorrelating bootstrap equalizer, which updates its coefficients only by its inputs, is presented for the time-variation suppression of the MIMO channel. The equalizer suppresses the CCIs of the outputs of the ordinary equalizer and improves the bit error rate (BER) performance of the MIMO system at the cost of only a slight additional computation. Simulation results show that the proposed bootstrap equalizer effectively suppresses the channel time-variation, and significantly improves the BER performance of the system.
