Reply to discussion by Alavi and Gandomi on “Models to predict the deformation modulus and the coefficient of subgrade reaction for earth filling structures” by Ismail Dinçer [Adv. Eng. Software 42 (2011) 160–171]

Alavi and Gandomi [1] indicated that there are some controversial points regarding the reliability and applicability of the presented ANN models proposed by Dinçer [2]. According to these criticisms, complementary explanations, tables and figures were given.

► I developed the estimation models for earth filling structures. ► Soils show different compaction behavior based on the compaction energy. ► The sensitivity analysis is performed to understand the behavior of ANN models. ► The estimating models should be used in preliminary stage of geotechnical projects.
