The magnitude of ship’s corrosion related electro-magnetic field was significantly influenced by the electrode positions and output current of the impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) system. In order to minimize corrosion related electro-magnetic field, we must know how the electrode position and output current influence the strength of corrosion related electro-magnetic field. In this paper, the corrosion related electro-magnetic field was simulated by boundary element method (BEASY software) with different electrode position and output current, and then the influence of electrode position and output current on corrosion related electro-magnetic field was analyzed, last the optimized electrode position was ascertained.
► Corrosion related electromagnetic signal reduces a vessel’s stealth. ► The signal can be reduced by ICCP system optimization. ► The signal first decreases and then increases with anode moving from bow to stern. ► Electric field strength is minimal at the potential of −700 mV. ► Magnetic field strength is minimal when ICCP system is cutoff.
