Novel synthetic syrbactin analogs trigger endoplasmic reticulum stress (induction of CHOP, ATF-3), downregulate anti-apoptotic proteins (survivin, Mcl-1), and cause apoptosis (activation of caspase 3, cleavage of PARP).
