Petiveria alliacea is perennial shrub indigenous in Amazon Rainforest and tropical areas of Central and South America, Caribbean, and Africa and had broad range of therapeutic properties, however is related to toxicity effects too. This study evaluated the putative effects on central nervous system (CNS) behavior and in the oxidative stress. The results suggest Petiveria alliacea showed stimulants effects and antidepressant activity not cited in literature. In stress oxidative assays, the extract showed increase of methemoglobine percentage, where is related to toxic effects.99
