Abstract
In Malian traditional medicine the roots of Vernonia kotschyana are used for treating gastric ulcer. Pectin- and inulin-type polysaccharides were isolated from the roots of cultivated and wild Vernonia kotschyana, and their abilities to fixate complement and activate macrophages investigated.
