Abstract
⺠Activity levels in mice housed in groups differ significantly; males tend to fight, females do not. ⺠In grouped males, the adaptive response to artificial loading at physiological strains is low suggesting pre-adaptation to fighting. ⺠When comparing adaptive responses to loading between groups of animals it is important to ensure activity levels are similar.
