Abstract

Nanostructured β-Ni(OH)2 was synthesized on nickel foam substrate via a mild hydrothermal process in an aqueous solution containing only Ni(NO3)2 and NaOH. The reaction conditions including reaction time and reaction temperature played crucial roles in the construction of different morphological Ni(OH)2 nanostructures. Cyclic voltammetry and constant current charge–discharge measurements illustrated the good electrochemical performance of the Ni(OH)2 electrode, and it displayed a maximum specific capacitance as high as 1778 F g−1 at a current density of 2.5 A g−1.
