Abstract

A dispersion of polystyrene (PS) particles was dried between two glass slides, one of which has a ∼100 μm periodical pattern surface of gold squares. The gold squares and the bare glass parts were modified with a self-assembled monolayer to produce hydrophobic and hydrophilic periodical patterns. The PS particles were confined in the hydrophilic regions, and network strings of PS particles were fabricated using the patterned glass slide with a hydrophobic gold surface.
