Abstract

Porous spheres of AgBr nanoparticles with an average diameter of 150–200 nm have been prepared by a simple reaction between AgCl suspension and KBr in the presence of gelatin at 10 °C. Gelatin played a decisive role as an inhibitor of the direct attack of Br− ions to AgCl surfaces and coagulation of the growing AgBr in producing the porous spheres at lower temperature. The products were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectra techniques.
