Abstract

A generalization of axisymmetric drop shape analysis (ADSA) to account for both gravity and electric field as external forces is presented. The generalization consists of further development of the experimental setup and procedure, as well as development of new numerical schemes. The resulting methodology allows study of liquid surface tension in an electric field. Comprehensive experimental work is presented that investigates the effect of an electric field on surface tension of a set of conducting liquids. The results suggest an increase of up to the order of 1% in liquid surface tensions due to the applied electric field.
