Abstract
⺠This experimental work provides original data on sulfate sorption by a Fe-oxide (magnetite) under hydrothermal conditions, up to 275 °C. ⺠We investigate the sorption edge and the speciation of the sorbed species as a function of temperature and redox conditions, using H2 for reducing conditions. ⺠The data demonstrate the important role of surface catalysis in kinetics of sulfate reduction and have potential applications in hydrothermal marine chemistry as well as in the nuclear power industry where colloidal particles of iron oxides are generated by corrosion.
