Abstract
- HAdV infection should be considered as a source of disease in the pediatric solid organ transplant population, causing severe disseminated disease or having an atypical presentation including hepatic focal lesions with absence of liver necrosis.
- Monitoring for HAdV infection in these patients should be considered for both pre- and post-transplant recipients, taking into consideration the serotypes of AdV detected by the testing methodology.
- Treatment for HAdV infection using antivirals is still debated, but it is clear that reducing or eliminating the patient's immunosuppression is key for recovery.
