Humidity-induced restructuring of the calcite surface and the effect of divalent heavy metals

Calcite surfaces exposed to humid environments exhibit surface restructuring as a function of humidity level, atomic step density, and exposure time. Pre-exposure to Cd2+ bearing solution has an inhibitory effect while Pb2+ does not show an effect.
