Abstract
► Rho uses a 'tethered tracking' mechanism to translocate along nascent RNA. ► Rho competes with the ribosome for binding to RNA and to transcription elongation effector NusG. ► By removing stalled RNA polymerases, Rho prevents conflicts between transcription and replication. ► Rho participates in small RNA and riboswitch-mediated regulatory mechanisms. ► Rho silences antisense transcription.
