Abstract
⺠The coefficient of variation (CoV) is frequently used to express the homogeneity of a velocity distribution. ⺠The CoV does not contain spacial information of a velocity distribution. ⺠Combination of CoV and a characteristic length scale leads to the definition of the coefficient of distribution (CoD). ⺠The CoD can be evaluated for any 3D-distribution using CFD. ⺠The CoD has been succesfully applied to industrial packed columns of large diameter.
