Abstract
⺠We report the first fossil wood from the Cretaceous of Puez, South Tyrol, Italy. ⺠The fossil occurs as driftwood in mid-Albian hemipelagic sediments of the Puez Formation. ⺠It is assigned to Agathoxylon and lacks tree-rings, indicative of humid climate. ⺠Cylindrical chambers containing faecal pellets suggest infestation by oribatid mites. ⺠Common teredinid borings of Teredolites longissimus type indicate that the trunk drifted out to sea prior to burial.
