Abstract
⺠Paraelops cearensis is an elopomorph known exclusively from the Albian of Brazil. ⺠Its systematic position is reassessed based on new specimens. ⺠The cladistic analysis indicated Paraelops as the basal taxon of the Elopoidei. ⺠This clade is supported by apomorphies in jaws and vertebral column.
