Abstract
⺠The Halimedides horizon is a new marker level. ⺠The Halimedides horizon is described for the first time from the Southern Alps. ⺠The Halimedides horizon is clearly linked to sea-level changes. ⺠The Halimedides horizon can be correlated with other Mediterranean localities. ⺠It marks a widespread Mediterranean late Barremian hiatus.
