Abstract

•Rh/La10Si6 − xFexO27 − δ catalysts were synthesized.•Replacement of Si by Fe enhanced the N2O decomposition activity over Rh/La10Si6O27.•The highest N2O decomposition activity was obtained for x = 1.0 in Rh/La10Si6 − xFexO27 − δ.

The environmental impacts of nitrous oxide (N2O) have received much attention, including contributions to the greenhouse effect and ozone depletion. Currently, the direct catalytic decomposition of N2O is considered to be the simplest and most promising method for N2O abatement. In this study, we focused on the high activity of rhodium and the oxide-ion conducting property of lanthanum silicate and prepared novel Rh/La10Si6 − xFexO27 − δ catalysts. From the results of catalytic N2O decomposition activities, Rh/La10Si6 − xFexO27 − δ (x = 1.0) exhibited the highest catalytic activity and N2O was completely decomposed at 600 °C.
