Abstract

In this paper, values for thermal parameters are obtained in two distinct and complementary ways: the first is through the drill cuttings and the Gamma Ray log, and the second is through a conventional TRT. This study presents the theoretical framework of the cuttings thermal analysis, the Gamma Ray log in the borehole and the TRT used in the interpretation of experiments. Then cuttings, formations and borehole thermal parameters have been determined. Finally, these results have been compared with those obtained from the TRT study.

► We explain a method to know the ground thermal properties. ► The method is based in the borehole drill cuttings and the Gamma Ray log. ► We show the theoretical framework of the experimental study. ► We have determined cuttings, formations and borehole thermal parameters. ► We compare the previous results with the results from a conventional TRT.
