Abstract

This paper presents a way to produce purified water with the same quality from the conventional water distiller and the advantage of saving energy and cooling water. Purified water was obtained by air dehumidifying with the aid of a heat pump and an adiabatic humidification system. The designed equipment is composed of two parts: a vapor compression heat pump and a chamber where the recirculated air gets humidified.

► Production of purified water with lower energy and cooling water. ► System based in air dehumidification and a heat pump. ► Efficiency of the system evaluated with coefficient of performances and SMER. ► Efficient system since almost all water introduced was purified. ► Electric conductivity of purified water produced lower than 10 μS/cm.
