Abstract
- Bioethanol wastewater streams were utilized as green media to culture microalgae.
- Effects of ultrasound on cell disruption and astaxanthin extraction were assessed.
- Optimal nutrient media consisted of 60% thin stillage and 40% process condensate.
- Ultrasound reduced extraction time and chemical consumption, and improved yield.
- Proposed process uses GRAS solvent and is suitable for thermolabile astaxanthin.
