Abstract
- Psychrophilic SHMT is a more efficient biocatalyst compared to mesophilic SHMT in the retroaldol reaction, but not in the physiological hydroxymethyltransferase reaction.
- Structural stability of cold adapted SHMT was investigated by equilibrium unfolding experiments and appears to be quite robust towards chemical denaturation.
- Psychrophilic SHMT is more resistant than mesophilic SHMT against formaldehyde inactivation.
