Abstract

- Porous CeO2 hollow nanospheres are synthesized without any hard template.
- The product has a uniform size of 135 nm and a high surface area of 145 m2/g.
- A possible mechanism for the hollow structures formation was proposed.
- These porous CeO2 hollow nanospheres are excellent supports for Au nanoparticles.
- Au/CeO2 catalyst had a high catalytic activity and durability for CO oxidation.
