Microwave backscatter response of pecan tree canopy samples for estimation of pecan yield in situ using terrestrial radar

► Reflected microwaves from pecan tree canopy samples containing nuts were measured. ► Correlation of signal strength to nut mass was poor (R2 < 0.32, 1-18 GHz). ► Correlation of signal strength to water was significant (R2 > 0.63, 5.5-8 GHz). ► Correlation of signal strength to dry mass was significant (R2 > 0.78, 5.5-8 GHz).
