Abstract
⺠We identify causal effects of class absence on UK university student performance. ⺠Random assignment and timetable information is used to address endogeneity issues. ⺠Panel properties are exploited to control for unobserved heterogeneity. ⺠We find adverse effects of absence on performance. ⺠Effects are causal only in the upper part of the conditional performance distribution.
