Abstract
⺠We propose a new empirical test for alternate models of returns to education. ⺠Human capital versus signaling theories are examined using data on MBAs. ⺠The test is based on differential returns to an MBA by pre-MBA work experience. ⺠Evidence suggests the majority of the return to the degree is based on signaling.
