Abstract
⺠Goal is to test a theoretical model that causally links confusion and deep learning. ⺠Model tested in two experiments involving the learning of scientific reasoning skills. ⺠Confusion induced via contradictory information manipulations with animated agents. ⺠Significant learning effects discovered when learners are confused by contradictions. ⺠Confused learners are more successful at applying knowledge to new situations.
