Abstract
⺠Middle school students read a brief, moderately difficult text. ⺠Situational interest and general affect (feeling “good”) decline while reading. âºÂ Higher perceived difficulty predicts steeper declines in both interest and affect. ⺠Reading fluency significantly predicts subsequent ratings of interest in the task.
