Abstract
⺠Children's temperamental characteristics were related to their achievement behaviors. ⺠Distractibility predicted a high level of active task avoidance in achievement situations. ⺠Distractibility also predicted an increase in active task avoidance during Grade 1. ⺠Inhibition predicted high levels of anxiety and helplessness in achievement situations.
