Abstract
⺠The paper explains monopolistic assembler's decisions of vertical separation. ⺠More than one input is required for the final product of the assembler. ⺠The existence of strong suppliers prompts the assembler to separate from its input units. ⺠The results are related to the vertical structures of Japanese and US auto assemblers.
