Abstract
⺠We developed a reduced set covering formulation to solve the flexible shift scheduling problem of physicians in hospitals. ⺠Computational results with real-world data show the efficiency of the reduced set covering formulation. ⺠Physician preferences and fairness aspects are integrated into the scheduling model. ⺠The numerical study shows that the solution space contains cost minimizing schedules that are fairness maximizing as well.
