Abstract
In this paper, a PSO based fuzzy speed controller has been presented. Different objective functions are considered to minimize the speed error between the reference speed and actual speed. The proposed method has been tested and examined for two types of DC/DC converters fed DC drive. The results of fuzzy PSO were compared with that of conventional fuzzy and genetic algorithm based fuzzy controller. The fuzzy PSO based controller was found to be more viable as it gave minimum rise time, settling time, steady state error and also ripples in the armature current was found to be minimized. Also it provides minimum standard deviation among the solution obtained from multiple random trials of load condition. The results confirm the potential of the proposed fuzzy PSO based controller has been effective and superior than the conventional fuzzy and genetic algorithm based fuzzy controller.
