Abstract
► We combine bone cell population kinetics with multiscale bone mechanics. ► Preosteoblast proliferation and osteoclast differentiation are influenced by microstrains. ► Microstrains are determined from concentration relations of continuum micromechanics. ► Simulations of osteoporosis- and microgravity-driven bone loss agree well with experiments.
