► We develop an ECE strategy suitable for large scale parameter identification. ► We propose a continuation scheme for accelerating convergence. ► We formulate a block-SOR scheme for large scale problems. ► The proposed MECE scheme showed faster convergence than a conventional L2/BFGS algorithm.
