Abstract
► Novel and efficient 3-D Hybrid-EAS solid element formulation. ► Our element accurately predicts interlaminar stresses in thick laminated beams, plates, and shells. ► Our element formulation is based on the mixed three-field Fraeijs de Veubeke-Hu-Washizu (FHW) functional principle, and accommodates large deformation and nonlinear materials. ► Our element has quadratic C0 transverse shear stress fields through the thickness direction, with linear displacement fields. ► Transverse shear stresses are continuous at the layer interfaces, and vanish at the outer surfaces of the composite structure.
