Abstract
⺠Plasmid DNA (pDNA) was efficiently encapsulated into biocompatible microgels. ⺠Plasmid DNA and an anticancer drug, doxorubicin, have been successfully released from pDNA microgels. ⺠The release of pDNA is capable of transfection in vitro resulting in the expression of p53 protein. ⺠The treatment with a pDNA/doxorubicin loaded microgel improves cancer cell apoptosis. ⺠We developed a novel pDNA vehicle for cancer treatment through the combined action of chemotherapy and gene delivery approach.
