Abstract
Oscillations in process control loops present a common problem. This paper proposes a new algorithm to detect valve stiction for diagnosis of oscillation. Formalism for the qualitative description of input–output characteristics of a valve is also proposed for implementation of the detection algorithm. The method was evaluated on several industrial data sets. It showed excellent performance for detection of stiction.
