Abstract
- Eccentric stresses in circular silos cause serious damage.
- We model eccentric stresses in silos using 3-D principal stress cap surfaces.
- Boundary conditions were selected to give Janssenian, symmetrical wall stresses.
- The model compares well with DEM data for an eccentrically loaded silo.
- It is difficult to predict internal stresses from wall and surface data.
