Abstract
Early detection of cancerous cells is crucial for successful treatment, hence active research has been focused on developing biomarkers based biosensors. Herein, we report the use of antibody-functionalized AlGaN/GaN high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) for a fast detection of the prominent tumor marker of carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9). The antibody of CA 19-9 was embedded to the sensing gate area of the HEMT device through self-assembled monolayer (SAM) technique. The source-drain current showed a swift response when the target CA 19-9 in a buffer solution at analytic concentrations was added to the antibody-immobilized surface. The lowest detectable concentration was 15â¯U/mL suitable for clinical detection of pancreatic cancer. Our experimental results clearly demonstrate the possibility of development of a portable HEMT sensor for rapid cancer screening and post-treatment tracking.
