Abstract
Layer-by-layer (LBL) assembly of polyoxometalates (POM) on gold mercaptopropionic acid self-assembled monolayer (Au-MPA SAM) via zirconium ion (Zr) glue was performed for the first time. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) were used for LBL characterization of the modified electrode. The Au-MPA-(Zr-POM)n electrode exhibited fast surface-confined reversible electron transfer up to 5 bilayer (n = 5). The Au-MPA-(Zr-POM)5 electrode exhibited remarkable electrocatalytic activity toward the reduction of H2O2 with a high sensitivity and low detection limit. Because of the simplicity of the preparation method, stable and reproducible electrochemical properties of the modified electrode, the proposed strategy shows remarkable advantages and should be important for practical applications.
