Abstract
⺠Wave reflections promote complex sliding modes in rate-and-state frictional systems. ⺠“Stick” phases exhibit fast fluctuations of the interfacial frictional resistance. ⺠Wave travel time and impedance of elastic slabs control frictional sliding stability.
