Abstract
•Free-organic template synthesis of EMT-type zeolite using obsidian.•EMT nanocrystals (200–300 nm) formed starting from 35 °C using sea water.•Fully crystalline EMT material synthesized at 60 °C with distilled water.•Nanosized EMT material represents useful product for industrial applications.
Organic-template-free EMT-type zeolite was synthesised at low temperatures using obsidian as a precursor material. When using sea water during the hydrothermal incubation, the data indicate that 200–300-nm nanocrystal minerals begin to form at 35 °C, whereas the temperature must be increased up to 60 °C to form well-crystallized zeolite with distilled water.
